2019 RESULTS - 6th Annual Soiree - Meet & Greet for Friends and Supporters
This year we were fortunate to have our Guest Speakers, Bobby Engram and his wife, Deanna! YES! THE Bobby Engram, arguably the best wide receiver in the history of the Penn State football program. And, currently the Receivers Coach with the Baltimore Ravens.
Bobby and Deanna Engram were with us this year in strong support of our ongoing Sickle Cell Council’s work on behalf of our Clients living with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD). They have a close understanding of the perils involved living with SCD. Their daughter, Bobbi, who was born with SCD, passed in August 2018 at just 20 years of age. Their beautiful daughter was a vibrant spirit during their family’s life together. Before Bobbi died from Sickle Cell complications, she told her parents that she wanted to help others. So, they started a nonprofit in her honor called, “The Bobbi Engram Foundation.” What a wonderful young woman with magnificent parents who are making her dream come true by building a non-profit to help other people. They touched many people’s hearts that evening at our Fundraiser.
We were well-supported by our well-known Front Line Sponsors: Capital BlueCross, PA Housing Finance Agency, and Highmark Blue Shield
Our Executive Director, Mr. Joseph Robinson, Jr., gave a warm, “Welcome and Goodnight” that evening. Our Board President, Dr. Gwendolyn Poles, who lives with Sickle Cell spoke about this disease.
Remarks by, Ms. Peyton Williams, SCC Client were beautifully shared concerning her various experiences living with Sickle Cell Disease. She is a beautiful, strong young woman with a mind in concert with living a full life with a positive spirit! She is incredible! We all appreciated hearing from her this year!
With over 100 attendees, our Host, Dr. Gwendolyn Poles, SCC President and Joseph Robinson, Jr., Ex. Dir. helped the evening move along well. And, SCC Board Members, Glenn Williams, SCC Treasurer, Dr. Herman Lawson, and Harlon Robinson, as well as, SCC Family Client Board Members Lisa Green Powell and Ronald Johnson joined us this year. All attendees arrived in support of our Council’s efforts to help improve the lives of Individuals and Families living with SCD! Our heartfelt “Thank You” goes to each and every one of them!
SCC Staff: Joseph Robinson, Jr., Ex. Dir., Debra Bizzard, Social Worker, Volunteers: Rosetta Archie, Lisa Green-Powell, Shay Battle, MJ Davis, Marie Mickens, Shirley Williamson, Edna Robinson, Lennie Lewis, were our wonderful Hosts, Guides, Judges and Runners, and Joseph Lista, our Event Photographer. MANY THANKS to our V.A.V.I. Team Members = Volunteers Are Very Important!
We are still counting the numbers, but, we know, financially, this was a terrific Fundraiser! We send out a huge "THANK YOU" to everyone who participated in our final annual event of 2019! We appreciate the strength of our supporters for our important Sickle Cell cause! We look forward to seeing you at our 2020 Events!
